Suggested for you and the Suggested card

Mainspring 3.3.1 · 2 min read
In the appSidebar›Suggested

Mainspring makes two kinds of suggestion: one card in the sidebar with a pick for right now, and a Suggested for you list of power-ups on Home. Neither changes anything until you act on it.

The Suggested card

Near the bottom of the sidebar, under SUGGESTED, is one recipe or setting with a one-line reason. Click the card to open that recipe — or, for Never sleep, to open Browse all filtered to Power. Nothing is applied until you click Apply or flip the switch yourself.

How it's chosen

Mainspring goes down this list and uses the first rule that fits. It only suggests recipes you haven't already applied.

WhenSuggestionReason shown
Your profile says laptop (the default), it's plugged in, and lid-closed awake is off Never sleep“Plugged in? Keep it awake with the lid shut.”
Running on batteryA speed recipe or, failing that, a focus recipe “On battery — lighten up to save power.”
Evening: 6 pm to 6 amA focus recipe “Winding down — declutter your screen.”
Working hours: 9 am to 6 pmA speed recipe “Make today feel snappier.”
OtherwiseYour best-matching recipe “Because you picked …” — for example “Because you picked Developer · Speed.”
If nothing else fitsAny recipe not yet applied “A fresh pick for …” and today's day

For the battery, evening, working-hours and fresh-pick rules, when several recipes fit, the pick rotates with the date, so you'll see different ones on different days. The best-match rule always offers your top match. The card disappears only when no rule fits. It's recalculated whenever you open the window or change something.

Suggested for you, on Home

Below the recipe grid on Home, Suggested for you lists up to eight power-ups that match what you told Mainspring when you personalized it, best match first. Each row has its normal switch and star. If you skipped personalizing, the list doesn't appear.

The same answers move up to four matching recipes to the front of the Home grid, and fill the For you section of the menu-bar panel with the top four power-ups.
