Change where screenshots are saved

macOS saves screenshots to the Desktop unless told otherwise. The Screenshot folder card lets you choose any folder, and always shows where they're going now.

Choose a folder

1. Open Browse all and pick the Screenshots chip.
2. The Screenshot folder card shows where screenshots go now — “Saving to ‘Desktop’”, for example.
3. Click Choose…. A folder picker opens: “Choose where new screenshots are saved.”
4. Pick a folder and click Use Folder. To use a new folder, create it in Finder first.

The card updates to the new folder's name, and your next screenshot lands there.

Go back to the Desktop

Once you've chosen a folder, a Reset link appears on the card. Click it to save screenshots to your Desktop again.

Good to know

• This is the same setting as Options › Save to in Apple's Screenshot toolbar (⇧⌘5). Change it in either place.
• Mainspring restarts the part of macOS that handles screenshots, so the new location takes effect immediately.
• Pair it with the screenshot power-ups in the same section — no shadow, no thumbnail, JPG instead of PNG, no date in the name — or apply the Screenshot Studio recipe.
