How to Make the Mouse Cursor Bigger on Mac

Updated August 2026 · 3 min read

The Mac pointer is drawn small — small enough to lose on a 4K display, and genuinely hard to track across a three-monitor spread. macOS has had the fix for years: a pointer size slider that scales the cursor from normal to comically large, with every size in between. It changes live as you drag, so finding your size takes seconds.

Make the pointer bigger

  1. Open System Settings → Accessibility.
  2. Select Display under the Vision section.
  3. Scroll down to the Pointer heading and drag the Pointer size slider to the right.

The cursor grows as you drag, so you can judge sizes in real time. The path is identical on macOS 13 Ventura, 14 Sonoma, and 15 Sequoia. To undo, drag the slider back to the far left (Normal).

The setting scales every pointer shape — the arrow, the I-beam text cursor, the pointing hand, resize arrows — across every app and every connected display. Nothing else about clicking or tracking changes; it's purely visual, and the click point stays at the arrow's tip no matter how large it gets. There's no restart, no logout — the new size is simply how your pointer looks from now on.

Picking a size that works

Maximum size is dramatic — the arrow becomes roughly the size of a thumb — and most people don't need it. Two notches up from Normal is the sweet spot for high-resolution displays: noticeably easier to find, not yet cartoonish, and easy to revise later. Go bigger if:

The one downside of very large sizes: the I-beam can feel imprecise in dense text, because the visual cursor covers several characters even though the click point is still exact. If that bothers you, step down a notch rather than back to Normal.

Two scope notes. The size is per-user, so a shared Mac can have a large pointer on one account and Normal on another. And screenshots taken with Cmd + Shift + 3/4 don't include the pointer at any size — if you need the enlarged cursor visible in captures, use the Screenshot app (Cmd + Shift + 5) and enable Show Mouse Pointer in its Options menu.

Losing it occasionally? Maybe you don't need the slider

If the pointer is fine 95% of the time and just vanishes after you've been typing, the built-in shake to locate feature may be all you need: wiggle the mouse (or scrub a finger side to side on the trackpad) and macOS balloons the pointer for a moment so your eye can catch it, then shrinks it back. It's on by default — the toggle lives in the same Accessibility → Display pane. Permanent size for a permanent problem, shake for an occasional one — and since both can be on at once, there's no need to choose.

Stack the visibility tweaks

Size is one of three pointer controls in that pane, and they compound:

A modestly enlarged, brightly colored pointer beats a huge default-colored one for most people — try color before maxing the slider.
