Faster DNS: switch to Cloudflare or Google DNS and back
DNS is how your Mac turns a website's name into an address. Faster DNS switches your Wi-Fi to a well-known public DNS service, and remembers what you had so you can go back exactly.
Choose a DNS service
On the Faster DNS PREMIUM card, pick one of three:

The change applies to your Wi-Fi connection straight away.
Going back is exact
The first time you pick Cloudflare or Google, Mainspring saves your current DNS settings — automatic from your router, or specific servers you or your workplace set. Switching between Cloudflare and Google keeps that original. Choosing Off (your current DNS) puts it back; as the card says, “Turning it off restores exactly the resolvers you had before.”
Good to know
- It changes your Wi-Fi connection only. Ethernet and other connections keep their own DNS.
- With no Wi-Fi hardware, the card says “No Wi-Fi interface found.” and the options are greyed out.
- Some workplace and school networks rely on their own DNS to reach internal sites. If something stops working, switch back to Off.
- Changing network settings goes through the helper Mainspring's installer sets up.
